My story 😴

Bore me with the details

Long story short… I've always been fascinated by the internet. As a teenager, I wanted to be a hacker like Mr. Robot. However, as I matured, my interests shifted towards online business, leading me down the path of digital marketing.

- Resilience

Landing a job after college was tough with no experience. Luckily, my friend helped me secure a job as an IT Support Technician. I didn’t love it, but it was a start and allowed me to pay the bills while I improved my web skills. My early attempts at building an online business were... well, let's just say they were valuable learning experiences. Most importantly, I never gave up!

- Entrepreneurship

Next, I landed a job at a small IT and Computer Networking company that allowed me to provide web services to clients. This was a step forward for me as I got to work with WordPress and build websites for real clients.

After growing my clientele, I decided to leave and start my own business. To manage my workload and leverage diverse skills, I built a team of talented professionals from all over the world. Turns out, managing people from diverse cultural backgrounds can be challenging, but I learned a lot about communication and adapting to different situations.

- Project Management

While running my business, I undertook work from a range of organisations, including digital agencies, to assist in building and troubleshooting WordPress websites. As I got older, I chose to step away from working 24/7 in my business and building WordPress sites. Instead, I transitioned to securing more stable contract jobs, ultimately leading me to project managing the development of web and mobile applications, as well as digital marketing.

- Agile

Then came Covid-19 and government restrictions, along with the need for hip replacement surgery which limited my mobility tremendously. Stuck at home, I decided to start into learning Python as I believe that in order to truly be great at digital marketing, you need to be able to code. I tried learning to code several times before but I always gave up due to its difficulty (now I love the struggle). I ended up falling in love with Python and learning it was the only thing I wanted to spend my time doing.

- Progression

Since I love web development and online business, I explored Flask, eventually moving on to Django and Wagtail. This forced me to learn front-end development to build better user experiences. I also developed an interest in Web3 and have successfully graduated from the Motoko Bootcamp. Leveraging my SEO knowledge, I have used Django to build a successful local leads site and Wagtail to build a successful Amazon Affiliate site.

I am now continuing to advance my skills and am excited to tackle new challenges in the ever-changing digital landscape.
